Photography and Passion

Photography has been a living passion in the lives of many. A sheer driving force in the backbone of those always striving for perfection in bringing a reproduction of something existing or created to life in the form of a visual art piece. An ever evolving art form and a rapidly expanding medium ensures the serious enthusiast and professional a growing and endless array of knowledge and expertise to create images that have the potential to evoke emotion which in turn makes the art limitless. Just as this art form evolves and recreates itself, so does CWPhotography.

Soccer City - 2010 is here! - Copyright - Chris Wessels

These are a just a few shots that I took about a month ago at a Dimension Data kick off event. This was the first ever event that officially took place in this new venue. Quite amazing to be there and see up close the breathtaking enormity and structure. I want to return soon when it's much closer to being completed to take some more when I am not pressured for time. I think 2010 is going to be a interesting year and time in South Africa. I see good things coming our way!

Copyright PricewaterhouseCoopers - Chris Wessels

These images were shot for PWC using model aircraft and limited time, the building shots were taken in Johannesburg CBD in an afternoon about mid-day by what I call hit and runs....you park 'illegally', jump out of the car with camera in hand while dodging traffic and taxi's and keeping one eye open in the back of your head in case some dodgy character fancies your camera, snap about 15 shots or so and then b-line back to the car before any traffic officers slap you with a bill that would make the shoot cost more than what you charge for it in the first place. Finally you would park of somewhere safe and preview the shots hoping that you have something to work with.
The model planes were shot in studio and then Photoshop for a few hours. I had fun with this project.

Under the same big sky - Copyright - Chris Wessels

The first photo is an image shot from a little viewpoint in Clifton - Cape Town. The panoramic image was shot in Pretoria, the difference is, Clifton has a natural sunset with amazing colours, Pretoria gets a little help from pollution... These are both mid winter shots about 3 weeks apart.

Jozi - my hometown - Copyright - Chris Wessels

Listening to the city from 49 stories up is something rather extra-ordinary. Music blasting from an African market down below as people as tiny as ants scurry between stalls either buying veggies for their evening meal or that new pair of shoes that was flown in directly from China or Taiwan. A minute later a prayer erupts from a loudspeaker somewhere from a mosque below. Taxi's hooting to attract passengers and the odd police or ambulance siren echos through the streets which is a common sound around here. Sitting up high on the shoulder of a steel and concrete giant, with the breeze whisking past my ears thinking...It's days like these I love this town...It's times like these we are reminded....

Tansey Coetzee - Miss S.A. 2007 - NSI (Nail Systems International) - Copyright - Chris Wessels -

Jolandie and myself did this shoot for NSI during the first half of last year. This was the first time we met Tansey, what a sparkling personality. As I mentioned in a previous post, she's a real pleasure to work with and is very accommodating. No issues what so ever! There are more shots from this shoot that I will post soon that shows more the generic shots of hands etc. of this campaign. Once again, this was a lot of hard work and planning and the day was allot of fun and always seems to go by to quickly.
I shot these using a Canon 5D in Raw.

Cedar Square - Copyrighted - Chris Wessels

I took these photographs for the Mall today after many attempts and numerous visits waiting a few months for the weather to clear, it looked like rain and was leaning toward heavy weather this afternoon, but at last, never let the weather fool you and rather be safe than sorry!

These are a few of my favourites from this assignment...

Jenna Clifford - Copyrighted - Chris Wessels

These are two shots I did towards the end of last year, Jenna had a promotion collaboration with Appletizer and these are a few of the images shot of the new range of jewelery, I think they are awesome pieces, especially the one with green stones.

Copyright - CWphotography - Durban South coast - Voetplaatstrand

These are photos from our beach holiday in Durban's South Coast. I couldn't decide on portrait or landscape at the time and still feel I like them both. This was one of the only afternoons that the sun actually decided to stick it's bright yellowish orange neck through the cloud formations which plagued the southern tip of Africa for the remainder of January. It was still a nice break though.

This is the view down the coast line towards Port Shepstone in the distance.

Land Rover Sub-Saharan Africa Images - Copyright - Land Rover

Its been a while since I posted, December and January came and went. It's hard to believe we are already in Feb. Crazy, this year CWphotography has hit the ground running, so until things simmer down for Jolandie and myself and only then if and when it happens, will I be able to spend some more time in here.
This is the Land Rover shoot that I was and am very excited about, this was allot of preparation blood sweat and tears. These are a bunch of the final images that I retouched for final production. Hopefully they will be at their stores and in their brochures soon, it's always nice to see an image on screen, but it's another thing all together seeing it in print. 'Real life just tastes better!'

I'll be up here soon with some images from the end of last year and some new projects for this year.

In the meantime, late nights and loads of coffee.....
